The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) has trained youthful members of the party from Northern Bahr El Ghazal State to prepare them for the upcoming general election scheduled for December 2024.
The three-day training in Aweil town organized by the national secretariat, national youth league which concluded on Thursday was held under the theme, “peace, unity, services delivery and reconciliation ahead of elections”.
The training was facilitated by the SPLM national secretary for social welfare, Peris Keji Kenyi and the team leader of training Samuel Malou Tokmach.
Malou said at the end of the training on Thursday that they have equipped and empowered the SPLM youth from counties and boma with necessary skills to campaign and mobilize for the party during the elections.
“This SPLM youth engagement rollout trainings will surely pave the way for the upcoming elections and with this training, we are quite confident in conducting free, fair and credible and transparent elections in a more conducive environment,” Malou said.
He stressed that the voters are required to exercise their constitutional duties freely so that they choose their leaders without intimidation.
For his part, the SPLM national secretary for social welfare, Peris Keji Kenyi applauded the warm hospitality provided to their team by the leadership of the SPLM members in the state.
Kenyi urged with the trainees to conduct the similar trainings in the counties and boma.
The Governor of Northern Bhar El Ghazal state Tong Aken Ngor called on the SPLM state secretariat to actively train the young people on election awareness and campaign strategies across the country.
South Sudan is due for general election at the end of the current transitional period in December 2024.
President Salva Kiir who leads the SPLM and his Fist Vice President Riek Machar Dhargon of the opposition SPLM-IO are expected to tussle it out during the presidential elections.
The two leaders fought a grueling conflict in 2013 after disagreeing on the roadmap for elections that were supposed to be held in 2015.
