The opposition umbrella group- Other political Parties (OPP) has dismissed four members of the state parliament in Northern Bhar El Ghazal state over internal disquiet.
Peter Yor Kiir, said the dismissals were ordered by the deputy governor Tong Chol who argued that People’s Liberal Party which is led by former national minister for humanitarian affairs and disaster, Peter Mayen Majongdit had taken a lion share of MPs under the umbrella opposition alliance.
“The dismissals are because of political differences that exist between us and them in the OPP which is made up of other parties. Four of our colleagues have gone and four are still with us,” Kiir told Juba Echo on Friday in Aweil town.
He accused Chol of favoritism because he appointed some of his relatives after the dismissal of the four legislators.
The deputy governor Tong Chol Ayat who is a key figure of Other Political Parties in Awei, said the umbrella group is comprised of six political parties with 8 seats in the state assembly.
“The eight seats were given to us as six parties and National Alliance was supposed to get 2 seats, and 2 seats for People’s Liberal Party, others like USSAP and UDF were supposed to get one each, but when the state assembly was formed other parties in OPP were not given seats,” he said.
Chol subscribes to the National Democratic Party (UDP) in the umbrella group.
“What they are saying against me is unfounded because one of the seats was occupied by the National Alliance party but came through Mayen, so I contacted Mayen’s people to shift their allegiance to us in National Democratic Party,” he said.
The axed MPs political are now waiting for Peter Mayen Majongdit who is currently in the United Kingdom to resolve the matter of their controversial dismissal from the state legislative assembly.
