NEC likely to cancel candidates’ results in Magwi over malpractices

The National Examinations Council (NEC) has threatened to cancel senior four results of candidates in Magwi County of Eastern Equatoria State over malpractices.

Awut Deng Acuil, Minister of General Education and chairperson of NEC issued this warning after the Secretary General of NEC with his team of national security officers were harassed.

She said the committee investigating possible examination malpractices was last week denied access to the exam room in Nimule border town. The senior four examinations commenced on March 20th.

“We may end up canceling examination results for the whole County of Magwi or selected stations depending on the recommendation of the investigations,” Awut said during a press conference in Juba on Friday.

“In effect, I have initiated an investigation into this harassment and intimidation of the secretary general and his team by the management of these stations and there will be consequences,” she said.

Awut warned station officers against interfering with the work of NEC.

“I hereby send out a strong warning to all station officers not to interfere with the work of the council. The council is mandated by the law to offer credible and reliable examinations in the country,” she said.

Awut also revealed that some students in Wau of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State objected to examination invigilators and stoned supervisors and members of national security.
