Central Equatoria State promises to stabilise price of beef

The Central Equatoria State Minister of Animal Resources, Fisheries and Tourism, Alex Lotief Elia on Friday assured the public that they are working with butchers to stabilise market prices for beef which is a favorite delicacy for many South Sudanese.

“We visited markets in Juba to understand the problems facing butchers, we visited Suk- Libya, Jebel and Konyokonyo markets, we have challenges especially the price of beef, the prices have increased,” Elia told journalists in Juba after visiting the markets.

He said that they will hold talks with livestock traders to reduce prices.

“We do not want the price for beef to be very high because we have a lot of livestock, we want to have stability in beef prices,” Elia said.

Flora Gabriel Modi, the Mayor for Juba City Council urged butchers to maintain hygiene in the markets, adding that the butchers must maintain hygiene and cooperate with the communities.

Elia said that the ministry is working to organize the beef markets in Central Equatoria state, adding that there is no need to keep the prices of beef floating where there are enough livestock.

“As the Ministry of Animal Resources, we have formed a steering committee to re-organize the butchers, both foreigners and nationals, we want to lower the prices of beef in the markets,” he said.
