Former youth leader appointed GPAA chief administrator

President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Monday sacked Lokali Ame Bullen, the Chief Administrator of Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) replacing him with former chairperson of South Sudan National Youth Union, Gola Boyoi Gola.

President Kiir in a decree aired on South Sudan Broadcasting Cooperation (SSBC) did not give reasons for relieving Bullen.

In March 2024, 15 people including the Commissioner of Jebel Boma County and the deputy commander of the South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) in GPAA were killed in a road ambush by suspected armed youth from Anyuak community.

GPAA has been experiencing of recent rise in cattle raiding, child abduction and revenge killings. Communities in neighboring Jonglei have been on the receiving end of violence allegedly orchestrated by Murle armed youth.

In another decree, President Kiir relieved Victor Atem Atem, the Undersecretary for Defense in the Ministry of Defense and Veterans Affairs, and Biar Atem Ajang, the Undersecretary for Veteran Affairs in the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs respectively.

Kiir appointed Kuol Deng Kuol, as Undersecretary for Defense and Akec Tong Aleu, as the Undersecretary for Veteran Affairs in the Ministry of Defense and Veteran Affairs.
