Empower Youth Africa kick off a Project on Building Local Climate Resilience

Empower Youth Africa (EYA) kick off a Project on Building Local Climate Resilience in Greater Pibor Administrator Area.

on 27th Janauary, Empower Youth Africa (EYA) a South Sudanese National Non-Governmental Organization in partnership with UN Women kick started a Project on Building Local Climate Resilience and Peace: Empowering Conflict Affected Communities in Pibor (GPAA) by commencing a Project Inception meeting with the Beneficiaries and key Stakeholders comprised of the South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (SSRRC) Chair Person for Greater Pibor Administrative Area who is the Guest honor, 5 Payam Administrators for Thangajon, Kavachoch, Lenyeriz, Akilo, and Manyirany, Chiefs, Women and Youth Association Leaders, the activity was conducted.

The Project’s aim is to enhance resilience and foster sustainable development in Pibor with special focus on Women, Youth, and Men with an overall goal of addressing the challenges of Climate change impacts and social tensions in the target Communities of GPAA.

The inception Meeting was facilitated by EYA Team on ground in Pibor Town headed by Rose Sadia William the Project Officer and assisted by Sebit Thawan Ngongo the Community mobilizer. Those in attendance were provided with information the Project Objectives and deliverables with emphasis on challenges of Climate change impact and social tension in the target Communities of GPAA; need to focus on capacity building, social cohesion, sustainable livelihood, and Climate resilient integration; how to tackle Climate change challenges and promote peaceful coexistence; integration of Climate resilience into development Plans and Policies by the Local Government Authorities in GPAA. The event created and generated positive atmosphere and relationship among Women, Youth, key Stakeholders, Religious and Community Leaders, Partners on ground as well as EYA.

The Meeting was opened by Mr. Joseph Konyi the South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (SSRRC) Chair Person for GPAA.

Mr. Joseph, “welcomed the intervention by EYA with this Project in Pibor County and expressed his gratitude and thanks to EYA, and UN Women for extending these services to the Five (5) Project Locations in GPAA. He said the Project is good because it is an integrated one with components of Climate change resilience, conflict, social tensions, violence, Capacity building, and peace while targeting underserved and hard to reach areas such as Thangajon, Kavachoch, Lenyeriz, Akilo, and Manyirany.  

“He has emphasized that EYA, remain in Pibor and should support other Sectors like education Programs, Sports Activities, Economic Empowerment, VSLA, Food Security and livelihoods to carter for vulnerable groups in the Host Community, IDPS and Returnees from Sudan.

Mr. Joseph, Chiefs, Community Leaders, Women and Youth Leaders, and the Beneficiaries promised to work with EYA from the beginning of the Project to the end and have encouraged EYA, and UN Women to keep up the good work by implementing various Projects in the nearest future to support the local Communities in GPAA.

On a separate note, Chief Simon Ngarichok of Manyorany Payam on behalf of his colleague Chiefs stated that we welcome Empower Youth Africa to peacefully operate in all these 5 Payams. We shall make sure in collaboration with EYA this project succeeds in bringing change to people of GPAA.

Chair Lady: Anna Boyoi, we need peace, even our own children are doing criminal activities in the areas but if organizations like Empower Youth Africa continue with peace messages, these youths will positively change.
