Meet King D Kapa, the rising rap star

The rise to fame of talented rapper, King D Kapa alias Kuerich Achiek Pourac was not easy.

He told Juba Echo of his music journey and his songs which have won over the public.

The Juba Echo reporter, Awan Achiek sat down with King D Kapa to speak with him about his path to music. Excerpts of the interview are below.

Could you introduce yourself to the public?

 I am Kuerich Achiek Pourac, known by the stage name of King D Kapa aka symbol of Greatness from Team Hustle Music. I am a South Sudanese performing and recording artist.

When did you start your music career?

My music journey started in 2015 few years after completing my high school in 2013. I contested in South Sudan Talent Search.  We were the last batch, although the conflict which erupted in 2016 disrupted the Talent Search, it was an amazing platform which has made many stars in South Sudan to join the music industry.

Who inspired you?

I started by listening to American hip-hop (rap) songs when I was young, I automatically fell in love with their music. I was actually inspired by American rapper, Rick Ross and others. I started music when I was still in high school; we started music together with the likes of Chol Mar Sebit Mike.

 How long have you been doing music?

 I have been doing music for the last five years. I started recording in 2019, but before that I was in the last batch of South Sudan Talent Search in 2015.

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of music?

Yeah, of course I play football (soccer). I have played for Yei Central FC in Yei River County, Blue Stars FC, Mahad FC, and Hai Leban FC and Rambo FC in Juba, Nile FC in Juba, Salaam FC in Rumbek, Yei All Stars in Juba. I also served as the team captain of Nile High Secondary School in Yei and Yei Central team captain.

How many songs have you released so far?

I have two studio albums that make total of 48 songs.

What skills have you horned in your singing career?

 I learned a lot of skills and creativeness that allow me to rap or sing on any beat.

What has been your best performance so far?

 My best performance was on 21 August, 2021 at Kili-kilu Ana extra comedy show at Nyakuron Cultural Center.

How many artists have you collaborated with and what have you learned from them?

I have worked with two superstars so far, J. Yang and Navy Boy and I have learned how to collaborate with artists of the same genre and at the same time with artists of different genre as well.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

I still have a long way to go but if God opens my way in five years, I will be somewhere in other African countries or America inshallah.

What do you aim to achieve with your music?

My aim and objective is to bring peace and love among South Sudanese through my music.

What message do you have for your fans?

My message to South Sudanese is for them to support their local musicians so that our music will be heard in different parts of the world.
