The Governor of Warrap state Manhiem Bol Malek recently inaugurated a new basketball court in Kuajok town in order to encourage youth to embrace the game.
Manheim urged the youth from Warrap State and South Sudan to shun inter-communal violence and other harmful practices in order to develop health lifestyles through basketball.
He said they are ready to support young people to develop their talents.
“Through sports we can be able to bring our people together from different communities of Warrap State, so let us take sports as tool for fighting communal conflict and tribalism,” Malek said.
Malek called for the Kuajok basketball court to be a playground that unites diverse communities in the state and across South Sudan.
Secretary General for Warrap State Basketball Association, Majak William said they will monitor and regulate basketball activities in the state.
Majak said they need capacity building training for basketball coaches and referees in the state.
He urged the state government to improve and repair the old basketball courts in Kuajok, Tonj and Twic Counties.
