MTN South Sudan on Friday announced a flagship sponsorship to the tune of 149,820,000 million South Sudanese Pounds to the South Sudan National Basketball Team.
In a statement issued in Juba, MTN said that the support to the national basketball team will be for a period of three-years.
“You are, hence our ambassadors, not only at international scene but also at the national, there is a lot more we are yet to do on the latter. Today we present the cheque of our commitment to you and will continue to support SSBF’s efforts to expand the reach of the basketball activities and games,” it said.
“Associating this new financial services product, the MOMO brand with the national team is our expression of confidence in the team and the great things MOMO and the National Men’s Basketball team will achieve together in this partnership for South Sudan,” it added.
It noted that the financial support from MTN South Sudan was received by the new executive leadership of the SSBF including President Luol Deng, the Secretary General, Aru Ramadhan and the Secretary of Finance Wal Paul.
“It was unbeknown to us, the extent the national team would go in the World Cup qualifiers, then the World Cup itself and the Olympics qualification but we believed in the potential of the national team and the potential of sports and its importance in nation building,” it said.
“SSBF has done us proud and we celebrate you, fond memories of the qualifiers in Tunisia, and then Egypt and then the World cup in the Philippines that culminated in the National team qualification for the Summer Olympics, in France July this year,” it disclosed.
MTN South Sudan, is a subsidiary of the Pan-African technology conglomerate, MTN Group, with keen interest in Africa’s progress and in deciding to partner and sponsor the South Sudan Basketball National Team.
