No road cut- off again between Juba and Bahr el Ghazal, says ARC

Last updated:

The African Resources Corporation (ARC) has assured the public that there will be no road cut-off in Juba-Rumbek Highway.

Eng. Manong Zechariah, the ARC project manager for Juba-Rumbek Highway, said the company is committed to addressing the challenges faced during the construction and ensuring that the project progresses smoothly without interruption.
“I would like to assure you that we are well equipped enough for the work. There would be no road cut off this season as we are 100 percent going very smoothly with the construction. The clearing and grubbing phases were done 100%. The embankment phase is done 90%. Meanwhile, we have covered 40 km of asphalt paving from Terekeka. We remain with 15 km to reach the Lake State territory.

“We are using a standard which we call AASHTO, this standard which guides us, we are projecting that within two years in Rumbek we are going to be done with asphalts,” said Zechariah.

He revealed that the construction challenges we are now facing are common globally. The conflict in the Mediterranean Sea whereby the Houthi forces are bombing and attacking ships resulted in shipments delays in the Red Sea, and as such, it directly affects the flow of good including the bitumen and fuel to South Sudanese.

“ARC has completed mobilization and deployed technical teams of experts on the ground to commence the construction work. the company plans to utilize locally available materials like murram for construction and has called upon local participation in the project.

In South Sudan, heavy rainfall has caused road cut-off due to flooding. This situation is the result of the country’s vulnerability to extreme weather conditions, including heavy rainfall. The impact of persistent flooding in the country has been significant, affecting hundreds of people and leading to challenges in infrastructure maintenance and disaster response.
