Civilians in Lakes State celebrated Christmas festive without any security hitches compared to previous years when violence was normal during the festive season.
William Koji Kirjok, the Caretaker State Minister of Information on Tuesday told The Dawn that for the first time they have not registered any incident of communal violence during this festive period.
“Christmas went on successfully, there was no any incident recorded by the police or organized forces on duty during the Christmas celebration,” Koji said by phone.
Lakes State had been prone to communal violence prior to the appointment of Rin Tueny Mabor as Governor of the state in 2021.
“Last year there was no incident recorded and this year too, we are expecting the same spirit to continue where people of Lakes State celebrate their Christmas peacefully,” said Koji.
He hailed the citizens for embracing peace and harmony among themselves.
“Youths have accepted themselves and wherever they go, they embrace themselves and this is a very good achievement,” he said.
Koji revealed that the state government has put measures in place to maintain security throughout the ongoing festive season.
“Peace has been accepted by all and the organized forces, commissioners and Payam administrators are doing their work in maintaining security,” he said.
