Divine Mercy Action Orphanage Center located in Kabu on the outskirts of juba has been enduring shortage of medicines and food items since 2021.
The Turkish Embassy and the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) on Monday donated assorted medicines to the Divine Mercy Action orphanage to help treat vulnerable children.
Yasmin Ahmed Khamis, the Chair of the Board of Directors of Divine Mercy Action Orphanage Center, said the institution is very grateful for the continuous support given by the Turkish government.
“We are happy that the Turkish Embassy and entire people are aware of the people of South Sudan and support children, it has not been easy for us to get medicines. No one can come and support children like this unless he or she has humanity, and this is not the first time for us to receive medicines from TIKA,” Khamis told The Dawn in Juba.
He disclosed that the medicines will help treat about 100 orphans starting this month until 2023.
“We usually take our children to the clinic which is very expensive for us, the treatment of the children has been big challenge to us but today TIKA has relieved us from that situation,” added Khamis.
Cafer T. Besli, TIKA Program Coordinator in South Sudan, said that the Turkish Red Crescent already donated mattresses , foodstuff and school materials to the orphanage.
“We as TIKA decided to provide something else which is on the health sector, as you know how access to the medicines is problematic especially for the orphanage like this one, we have provided different types of medicines that can treat different diseases like malaria, diahoria and cholera,” said Besli.
TIKA also provided refrigerator to help store medicines and other food stuffs.
Omer Sharif EL Din, Director of Social Welfare in the State Ministry of Gender, Child and Social welfare, said that the medicines will solve the challenges that have been faced by the orphanage.
“This support is supposed to be given by the government but we don’t have anything, we have really appreciated the Turkish government for this support,” said Sharif
He warned the management of the orphanage to utilize the medicines well.
“TIKA has done a lot in this country and we are happy for them and we pray to God to bless their hands,” sd Sharif.
