The National Revenue Authority (NRA) is planning to establish a one-stop-shop for revenue collection to reduce the tax burden on the taxpayers, said Marial Dongrin Ater, the Deputy Commissioner for Research and Planning.
“We are coming up with what we called one-stop-shop, a concept that brings national and state governments to cooperate, we do not want an increase in the tax burden on our taxpayers,” Marial told journalists on arrival from Wau, Western Bahr El Ghazal State while accompanying Africano Mande, the Deputy Commissioner General of NRA.
The National Revenue Authority team under Mande is carrying out a consultation on developing its five-year corporate strategic plan to expand the non-oil revenue tax base.
“Obviously, the automation and the electronic tax system are helping us in terms of cost reduction and it is very convenient to our taxpayers, we have seen the increase in revenue collection and partly, it is definitely as a result of automation, we will continue to ensure that there is full compliance,” he said.
Marial said that the tax collection rate in the state is fixed and stable noting that the NRA will continue to engage the public and stakeholders on revenue mobilization.
“We are rolling out an electronic tax system in the areas where we have the infrastructure and there are other ways we are assisting the taxpayers to be able to conveniently register as taxpayers and to pay their taxes and file their returns,” he said.
Marial said that revenue collection over the last 10 months of the current financial year has been stabilizing or increasing.
“Our country does not have all the infrastructure for digitalization but this is the journey this country has already started on, you realize the national communication authority is all over the country trying to put up the infrastructure,” he said.
