The South Sudan Athletics Federation has announced that the awaited national athletics
championship is set to commence starting from 24 November to 25 at Buluk play ground in
Juba.
Simon Okeny, Deputy President for South Sudan Athletics Federation said 23 athletes from
each of the 10 states and three administrative areas will participate in the upcoming second
edition of the national athletics championship.
“We do not have adequate budget for the national championship, but we have decided to
continue with the event, the athletes from Wau of Western Bahr El Ghazel state and the
delegates from Aweil of Northern Bahr El Ghazel state have arrived,” said a statement issued by
the athletics federation in Juba on Tuesday.
In October, Marko Akol, the secretary general for South Sudan Athletics Federation, said the
athletics championship games will provide opportunity to show case talent of various unknown
athletes.
He said they will also organize boot camp for training of the athletes.
The annual national athletics championship will be held under the theme “Sports for peace and
unity,” with events ranging from 100 meters to 10,000 meters marathon.
