The Justice Confidence Center a local NGO said on Friday it will soon be providing free legal services to gender-based violence suspects in police stations and other ungazzeted detention facilities in Central Equatoria state.
“We will be visiting police stations and detention centers, where we will look at cases of gender-based violence, there are people in prison who do not have legal representation or a case file. We will be doing counseling and psychosocial support to prisoners,” Kiiko Suzan, Executive Director for Action Girls Africa and also member of the Justice Confidence Center told The Juba Echo in Juba.
She said the Justice Confidence Center is training local communities on reporting mechanisms on GBV and also training police on handling GBV cases.
“We call upon the members of the public to be able to come up openly to seek justice,” Suzan said.
Suzan urged community members to respect vulnerable groups such as women and children.
“We also believe we will be able to work together to support people when it comes to accessing justice, we can now see how you can be able to medically and psychosocially get services and also legal representation,” she said.
Action Girls Africa is a national organization established in 2016 and registered under South Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Commission. It’s mission is to empower underprivileged women and girls in South Sudan.
