The local population in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state has appealed to the transitional unity government to speed up implementation of the pending tasks within the 2018 revitalized peace agreement.

Dut Garang, a concerned resident of Aweil town told Juba Echo on Wednesday that they want the parties to complete the unification of the security forces, establish transitional justice and accountability mechanisms, and also enact the permanent constitution and also put in place electoral laws and elections commission and political parties council.

He also said that achieving sustainable peace and security will attract foreign investors to Northern Bahr El Ghazal state.

Adior Simon Agany, a resident of Aweil town said they lack good schools and qualified teachers in the state.

“We don’t want peace to be spoilt again, we need to unite our hands so that we achieve development in our country,” she said.

The Governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, Tong Aken Ngor, during celebration of the 12th Independence Anniversary at Freedom Square in Aweil town, said that the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement led by President Salva Kiir was fully committed to implementing the pending critical tasks ahead of the 2024 elections.

“We must implement the roadmap of 2022 fully so that we have free, credible and fair elections in 2024 as there are no more months left,” Ngor said.
