At least six have been killed and one other wounded after security forces clash with armed civilians over a land dispute in Kworijik Boma of Juba County.
The clashes happened on Tuesday when the Juba County Commissioner visited the area to investigate a dispute in the local community, according to Police spokesperson Maj. Gen. Daniel Justin Bula.
“They started to attack the people of the county and as a result we lost 6 people and 1 injured,” he said.
He said the police have launched an investigation to determine the owners of the land.
Gen. Justin said suspects have been arrested and are currently at Kuburi Haboba police station as they wait for results of the investigation.
“The police managed to arrest 53 suspects. We suspect that they are land grabbers,” he said.
“The Mundari are claiming that it’s their land and the Bari claim that it’s their land so the investigation will give us more details,” he explained.
CES state has been witnessing series land grabbing incidences in the past years.
In May, 50 land grabbers were arrested in Gondokoro by the Central Equatoria State authorities.
