Former Deputy Chairman of Greater Yirol Youth Union in Uganda, Abui Thon Abui has been elected as the new chairperson of Greater Yirol Youth Union in Juba.
Abui won with 52% of votes, defeating his opponent Juma Madol Mamur with 47%, according to electoral commission which handled the voting.
Abui became second chairman of Greater Yirol Youth Union in Juba replacing Madhieu Marial Gum who was elected since in 2015.
“The winner of these elections is honorable Abui Thon Abui who got 52%,” Lawyer Matur Majok, Chairman of Electoral Committee announced the results on Sunday in Juba.
Majok said the position of Secretary-General, Secretary Finance and others were unopposed.
Santo Malek Anai, SPLM Acting Secretary for Information said the election which was held at Nyakuron cultural Center in Juba on Saturday was free, and fair.
“This process is free, fair and credible the way I have seen it, the difference of the two candidates is not very much,” Malek said.
Malek congratulated both candidates for conducting peaceful elections.
“We will keep supporting such process and I would congratulate the guys who have just won the elections comrade Abui Thon Abui and also want to congratulate Juma Madol because both of them how shown peaceful competition among themselves.”
