The Vice-Chancellor of Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology, Prof Abraham Matoc on Wednesday revealed plans to establish a modern agricultural training institute in Awerial County of Lakes State.
He said that the institute will be for training, research and analysis.
“Our plan is that we are using the college of agriculture for training, teaching, for research and analysis, and for creation of goods and services,” Matoc told The Juba Echo in a phone interview on Wednesday.
He disclosed the university has already acquired land and the training is expected to start during the rainy season.
“We will start with it this year with the start of the rainy season. The land is already available and is fit for office and the Commissioner as well as the governor are ready to receive Dr. John Garang University in the area,” said Matoc.
He said the agricultural institute will not only aid research and academics but also generate revenues for the institution.
“We will actually train them (farmers) on a large farm area whereby once it does well, the product will actually go to the market,” he said.
He said the college of agriculture at Dr. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology wants to adopt technology that is productive.
“Awerial is an agricultural land, so we like to start with it as an agricultural training area and in the long-run we plan to develop into something bigger,” said Matoc.
