Calm has returned to Malakal town of Upper Nile State following recent street protest by aggrieved employees who declined to be transferred from the municipality to the State Ministry of Local Government and Law Enforcement.
Those arrested on Tuesday include military officials and politicians.
Luk Sadallah Deng, State Minister of Information, said the situation is now calm and people are doing their normal business as usual.
Deng disclosed that a total of ten people were injured in Monday’s clashes between civilian protesters and security forces in Malakal.
“The government have imposed curfew, from 6 P.M to 6 A.M and we did this due to the situation, and also will help us to identify those who are grouping themselves to go for protest again, if we don’t this, criminals will take advantage of the situation,” Deng told The Juba Echo by phone on Wednesday.
“The protesters forced the police to use live bullets to disperse them resulting in injuries among the protesters. One woman was in a critical condition,” he said.
Deng revealed that about 4 people are among the wounded flown to Juba for treatment.
