The head of South Sudan’s United Nations mission (UNMISS), Unity state cluster, HoFo Hiroko Hirahara has promised East Africa scholarships to students who excelled in 2020/2021 examinations.
Speaking on Sunday during Koch county community students’ association farewell party in Bentiu IDP camp, Hiroko said that the scholarship is aimed at promoting girls education in Unity state specially those under the protection of civilian site formerly PoC.
“I am so happy to be in this farewell party, this is my second time to witness this important education farewell party in Bentiu IDP camp something that made me to request scholarship from UNMISS, And now East Africa scholarships are underway, and the scholarships will be particularly to IDPs specifically Koch Community students mainly girls who managed to pass 2020 and 2021 secondary examinations.” Hiroko stated.
The Unity State UNMISS boss lady also promised protection of people living in the internally displaced people’s camp through intensifying patrol during both day and night.
“I guarantee your protection. United Nations Police and other sister security forces will work together and protect you from people who may have intention to harm you, we did not fully handover this camp therefore, we still take responsibility of protecting you.Hiroko promised.
The Students’ farewell party was attended by the Unity state minister of education, IOM camp management and camp coordination Cluster, Bentiu IDP camp community high committee, SPLM-IO Military Intelligence Chief and other distinguished representatives.
Unity state minister of education Totjok Chieng Nyuon while addressing the gathering urged the community to prioritize girl child education and balance roles and responsibilities for both boys and girls in order to offer equal opportunities for them to study.
“The ministry is aware of your demands and incase of any scholarship, you will be informed, I am happy to hear UNMISS head of field office make promise, the ministry of education is in full support of the promised scholarship.” Remarked Chieng.
