The delegation from the South Sudan Union of Professional Accountants briefed the First Vice President Dr Riek Machar on their activities and discussed ways they can contribute to the economic reform agenda the country is undertaking.
In a statement to the media after the meeting, the Union’s Chairman Duol Stephen Jok acknowledged the significant steps the revitalized government has made to improve the economic situation in the country.
“The Union discussed with the First Vice President Dr Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon ways the union can contribute in the development of the Accountants Act and establishment of Accountants Institute in the Country,” he said.
“The two parties will collaborate with the government stakeholders to support the economic reforms in the country,” he added.
Duol Stephen Jok also called on all professional accountants in South Sudan to register with the Union to help the Country in the Public Financial Management and management of the Accountant Profession.
He said the union will contribute to building state capacity and accountability in PFM at the Central Government (GRSS), the State Governments and Counties and improving aid coordination in support of the country’s PFM systems.
Duol added that the union will contribute to knowledge building to support the recovery and development efforts in fragile and post-conflict countries, particularly with respect to the modalities of delivering institutional capacity development projects in support of PFM systems.
