South Sudanese basketball fans can hold their heads high following the end of the fairy tale story 80-65 in the hands of the reigning champions Tunisia this afternoon.
“South Sudan made it to the quarters on the first attempt which was a surprise to many people after overcoming the Morans of Kenya in the knockout round.
Joyce Poni, a residence of Gudele and a student of Juba University who had earlier said she will be among the first to welcome the team at the airport upon their return told the Juba Echo that she is still proud of the performance of the boys.
South Sudan is currently ranked 14th in Africa and it’s lived up to her status as the dark horse of the tournament.
South Sudan made it out of a difficult group D in the tournament that comprises of Cameroon, Senegal and Uganda.
