A civil society activist in the Eastern Equatoria state of South Sudan has strongly condemned
the incident of Sunday in Ikwoto county where three Boda-Boda riders were ambushed 4Kms
along Ikwoto- Seretenya road by unknown gun men who opened fire killing two at the spot,
injuring one other who has since been hospitalized in Ikwoto PHCC .
Mr.Oryema Emmanuel told Juba Echo in Press briefing on Monday that, as Civil Society
Organisation,they strongly condemn this kind of act which he termed it as a “barbaric”calling
on the government to make sure the perpetrators of this violence are fetched to book in order
to serve justice to the relatives and lives lost .
“we actually condemn this act, it is barbaric to take life of somebody or people who are
innocent and we urge the government of the state to make sure, the perpetrators of this
killings are brought to justice since it has the capacity to investigate and find out who is
responsible for it”. Says Oryema.
He further counselled the state government to prioritize security of the citizens by materializing
the expedition of the Unification and deployment of the National Army to take charge of
security both at the national and state levels across South Sudan or else it can depreciate to a
very bad condition.
The activist also contends that team work among government, Civil Societies and the general
public need to be upscaled to boost the fight against insecurity in the all over the country.
“And I think the politicians and we the civil society and the citizens, need to work hand in
hand to make sure we combat insecurity. We have our levels; we have our role that we can
play to support that of the government” He sustained.
He at last, solicited citizens of South Sudan to report any form of unnecessary movement which
may destabilize peace and security of the locals and also cautioned them against sheltering
criminals but to report them immediately to the authority for appropriate action.
