The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) Human Rights Division has completed the training of 25 journalists in human rights reporting and gender mainstreaming in Unity State.
“I am very happy for your turning up to attend our training and I assure you UNMISS human rights division unity state filed office will continue to conduct more workshops to you as you will be reporting human rights violation in the coming South Sudan elections,” said Raoul Irenge, UNMISS Human Rights Officer after the conclusion of the training in Bentiu on Friday.
The trainees included private practicing journalists and also those from state-owned media organizations.
The training was supported by UNMISS Human Rights Division, UNMISS Gender Division and UNMISS Public Information.
The workshop was opened by the State Minister of Information David Gai Jejor and Hiroko Hirahara the UNMISS head of Field Office.
Hirahara said her office will make sure that journalists are well trained in the fundamental rights, civil rights, and individual rights ahead of the 2024 national election.
“UNMISS is committed to train journalists on human rights reporting, freedom and civic engagement and gender equality,” said Hirahara.
