The chief Whip of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, Rebecca Joshua Okwaci has called on parties to the revitalized peace agreement to steer clear of disputes which are slowing peace implementation.
“We also need to remind ourselves that we signed an agreement in 2018 and it keeps dragging on and on. Are we ready to continue to drag on and on and on whose expense are we going to continue dragging?” Okwaci said.
Okwaci made this call during the launch of a three-year project by the Centre for Inclusive Governance, Peace, and Justice last week in Juba.
The project is funded by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and aims to advance women’s rights through the implementation of a peace agreement.
Okwaci stressed the need to implement the remaining provisions within the peace agreement.
She emphasized the need for parties to redouble efforts to fully implement the extended transitional roadmap which ends in 2025.
“24 months are not long, we have already started to go to 24 months and I want each of us to close our eyes and reflect on how much time you need to stop this,” said Okwaci.
