Members of the Red Army Foundation will celebrate the 40th anniversary when the then rebel Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) shot the first bullet in Bor, which kick started the long-decades liberation struggle.

“President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the Commander- in- Chief of all the organized forces will be with us to mark this great day, to remember the struggle against oppression by successive regimes in Sudan,” Kenyi, Red Army deputy secretary for external affairs and political mobilization told Juba Echo.

The SPLA Day celebrated on May 16th, honors liberators who fought the war that paved way for the secession of South Sudan from Sudan in 2011.

SPLA commander Kerubino Kuany Bol, shot the first bullet in Bor town of Jonglei State in 1983 which kick started the liberation war led by the late Dr. John Garang De Mabior.

“We expect other prominent officials and the entire public to join the President and the Red Army Foundation to celebrate the day in Medan Shimba,” Kenyi said.
