Over 36,000 PLWDs handed Christmas cash in Unity State

At least 36,554 persons living with disabilities in Unity State have received early Christmas cash from humanitarian agency Welt Hunger Hilfe.

John Yiik Chany, Welt Hunger Hilfe cash transfer officer, said each individual received 45,000 South Sudanese Pounds in Bentiu internally displaced camp ahead of the festive season.

“Our cash transfers are meant for Christmas to enable persons with disabilities buy something during the Christmas celebration,” Yiik told Juba Echo in an interview in Bentiu IDPs camp cash transfer center.

Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH) initially supported people with disabilities to grind food and buy charcoal, but decided this year to increase the cash.

“We know that it’s less money, but it will do something during the Christmas celebration,” said Yiik.

Peter Puot Dhai, a 68-year-old beneficiary of the cash, said he will use his money to buy clothes and food during Christmas and New Year’s celebration.

“I will use 25000 South Sudanese Pounds for buying my clothes, and 20,000 will remain for my Christmas celebration to buy food and water,” said Puot.

Last year, Welt Hunger Hilfe distributed cash transfers to 3000 disabled people.
