The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Albino Akol Atak has said South Sudanese people fleeing Sudan’s conflict will be facilitated back to their original areas of origin.
The minister was addressing journalist on the situation in Sudan and the humanitarian response by the government of South Sudan regarding those fleeing the Sudan’s violence.
“We are not creating camps (for South Sudanese people) because these are our people. We are facilitating their coming, we will welcome them and take them where they are going to in their respective states,” Said Akol.
Akol further said the government supports creation of temporary shelters for both South Sudanese returnees and refugees.
The Humanitarian Affairs Minister estimates that there are 2 million South Sudanese people in Sudan.
He said the government has opened 12 border entry points to receive those coming into South Sudan from Sudan.
He added that the country is currently receiving an average of 500 people from Sudan daily.
South Sudan shares the longest border with Sudan.
Many South Sudanese people have been living in Sudan either as refugees or as residents who never returned to South Sudan after the country attained independence from Sudan in 2011.
There are those who own property in Sudan and there are those who have their children in school in Sudan.
