Jikany community to hold peace conference in Unity State

A peace and reconciliation conference for Jikany community is set to begin on 10th March 2023 in Unity State.

The three-day conference will see Jikany community discuss ways of restoring peace in Unity State.

Dr. Joseph Manytuil Wejang, Governor of Unity State hailed the organizing committee for their utmost commitment to reconcile and end the revenge killing among Jikany community.

“I appeal to the committee to concentrate on targeting groups or sections that were affected by the conflict, most especially the victims of revenge killing,” Manytuil said after meeting with Jikany community high committee for peace and reconciliation in Bentiu on Wednesday.

Manytuil reaffirmed the state government’ commitment to support peace and reconciliation in order to achieve lasting peace in Unity State.

“The committee held the first conference in Juba to consult with Jikany leaders, elders and intellectuals to give their opinions and recommendations about peace and reconciliation conference agreed to be held in Unity State,” Rev. Peter Gatdet Gatwich, head of Jikany community high committee for peace and reconciliation said.

He said the peace conference will bring together government officials, traditional leaders, youth and religious leaders from all Payams of Guit County.

The conference is also expected to come up with rules and regulations to safeguard members of Jikany community both within the country and in diaspora.
