The Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS) on Tuesday commenced training of journalists in Aweil town.
Michael Duku, AMDISS Executive Director said more than 15 journalists from different media outlets from Warrap, Western Bahr El Gazal and Northern Bahr El Ghazal States are attending the three-day training.
“These reporters were brought together to attend capacity build training so that they gain proper reporting tips. We are aiming at strengthening them on how to know media ethics including conflict sensitive reporting,” Duku told The Juba Echo in Aweil town.
He said that the media outreach training program conducted by the media training institute (MDI) has been ongoing in Juba, adding this training in Aweil is part of these efforts to train journalists in states.
“We have been conducting a one- year journalistic training and as far as states are concerned, we are embarking on reaching out to the field reporters that is why we have come to Aweil,” Duku said.
The training covers conflict-sensitive reporting, media law, ethics, code of conduct, gender based-violence reporting, and trauma healing.
Duku advised journalists to help sensitize the public on the ongoing peace process through reporting extensively on it.
One of the participants, Amjima Akol said that she is glad to attend the training.
“Topics such as gender-based violence are very important and I want to help the public know about the importance of having a peaceful home,” Akol said.
The state minister of information was the chief guest at the ceremony, and he appealed to journalists to report ethically to avoid inciting the public.
