Registration of vehicle logbooks, licenses launched in E.Equatoria state 

Authorities in South Sudan’s ministry of interior in collaboration with Great City Company on Tuesday launched the issuance of motorcycle and vehicle logbooks in Torit town of Eastern Equatoria State.

The Acting Director for Traffic Police in Eastern Equatoria State, Col. Leonard Peter John told journalists motorists will no longer commute to Juba to collect driving licenses and log books.

Motorists previously used to travel to Juba, the capital of South Sudan to renew driving licenses and vehicle logbooks.

John said that motorcycle logbook and licenses will cost up to 70,000 South Sudanese Pounds (SSP) and SSP 90,000 for vehicles.

In addition, John also said that Eastern Equatoria State is having few traffic police officers to regulate traffic amid rise in fatal accidents.

The State has only180 active traffic police officers who are not facilitated well to do their work.

John said the officers lack vehicles and motorcycles to facilitate their movement.

 The Director General for Logistics and Supply for Great City Company, Bosco Juma Daniel advised all boda-boda association to ensure all their members register to acquire legal licenses and logbooks.

He said that they will employ locals to support them to issue out licenses and logbooks, adding that their staff will handle the technical aspects of work.

The Secretary for Eastern Equatoria State Drivers’ Union, Francis Oting Otee welcomed the issuance of licenses but also complained about the exorbitant charges.

 He also requested the government to provide vehicles and motorcycles to traffic officers to facilitate them to do their work properly.

The Deputy Governor Eastern Equatoria State, Mary Alphonse Lodira said that motorists should turn up for registration with all the necessary documents for their safety.

She also cautioned the traffic police officers from extorting motorists.
