The Commissioner of Aweil North County Kiir Chan Wol on Tuesday banned the use of polythene bags following the death of animals in the area.
Chan told Juba Echo in an interview that starting Friday no trader will sell polythene bags due to the danger they pose to the environment and animals.
He said the cows, goats and sheep are dying after swallowing polythene bags.
“We are going to deal with the local traders who are not adhering to law abiding they will face arrest and fines, because you find in all homes plastic bags being dumped at random,” said Chan.
Chan said the ban on polythene bags comes after he ordered ban on the sale of local alcoholic gins such as Star Gin and Royal Gin.
