Authorities in Aweil South County of Northern Bahr El Ghazal state on Wednesday announced dusk till Dawn curfew aimed at curbing crime as the population prepares to celebrate Christmas.
Luka Thel Thel, the Commissioner of Aweil South County said that they are putting in place the curfew to allow people enjoy Christmas peacefully.
“We have realized that boys walk with girls a lot at night in the markets and on the main roads and these acts are prohibited,” said Thel
He said he has held meetings with chiefs, youth and other associations about the need to prevent crime during the festive season.
Thel disclosed that the security forces have been briefed to arrest and fine those found to have violated the curfew.
Lual Dut Awer, a youth leader in Aweil South County said the curfew will improve security during the festive season.
“We are grateful with the decision as this is going to correct the behavior of the youth, and also girls who put on skimpy dresses will be punished during the curfew,” he said.
The authorities said people should not walk at night beyond 9:00 P.M.
