At least 34 women have undergone successfully operation for fistula in Aweil hospital.
the fistula campaign commenced early this week and so far 10 women with uterus complications and 24 with mild fistula were treated.
The reproductive medical officer at Aweil hospital, Ayuel Ayuel told Juba Echo on Thursday that some of the women who had been registered for the free treatment never turned up.
He said those operated upon will abstain from sex intercourse for six months to avoid rupture.
“You don’t need to practice sex for a given period, if you never accomplish the given period and you get pregnant you will have complications,” Ayuel said.
Nyanut Akol, was among the women who successfully underwent the knife.
“I am glad that I will be like other women who are giving birth without complication, I will not be stigmatized or discriminated against by women who used to talk about my condition before,” Akol said.
She appealed to other affected women to turn up for the free treatment.
A fistula is an abnormal connection between an organ, vessel, or intestine and another organ, vessel or intestine, or the skin. Fistulas can be thought of as tubes connecting internal tubular structures, such as arteries, veins, or intestine, to one another or to the skin.
