Northern Bahr el Ghazal state officials have started distributing malaria drugs for treatment of under-five children.
Majak Ngong Dut, a boma health worker in Aweil South County, said they received drugs to support children ranging from 3 months to 59 months.
“The consignment has been delivered to Aweil South and Aweil West Counties where most of the children are suffering from malaria,” Ngong told Juba Echo over the weekend.
The consignment was distributed to the state officials by the Malaria Consortium, an international organization that is partnering with the ministry of health.
Ngong said that they were trained on how to go from door to door to administer and distribute the drugs.
“We are supposed to give drugs to children who are not infected with malaria. But now we get children having malaria which is contrary to the initiative. We are thankful to the Malaria Consortium for delivering the drugs to us as we shall be moving from house to house,” he said.
Dut urged the parents especially mothers to always stay home so that they get the drugs which are given out free of charge.
In May, the distribution of the mosquito nets was done across Northern Bahr el Ghazal, but several beneficiaries are believed to have sold out their mosquito nets for money.
