The Northern Bahr El Ghazal State Police service on Tuesday apprehended more than 142 gang members belonging to old star group following a bitter brawl during a party in MBC hotel.
Capt. Guot Guot Akol, the police spokesperson of Northern Bahr El Ghazal state, said on Wednesday that gang members were attending independence celebration party at the venue which later turned violent.
“They started fighting themselves till they hurt some who were rushed to Aweil hospital for treatment. In the process some rushed after those who were taken to the hospital to fight them but were resisted by the nurses in the facility who got hurt as well,” he told journalists during press conference in Aweil town.
Guot said among the detainees include 60 girls.
He disclosed that most of the gang members are aged 16 years and above.
The managers of the MBC hotel declined to comment on the incident when contacted by the Juba Echo.
The police are still probing into the cause of the fight.
Thousands of South Sudanese youth are involved in gang violence which is characterized by looting, killings and thuggery.
