The world health organization’s covax coordinator based in South Sudan, Brenden Dineen has revealed that the total number of South Sudanese fully vaccinated against Covid-19 has now hit 2,072,520 mark
The WHO Covax coordinator told journalists during a Sunday bi-weekly press briefing at the public health emergency operation center that so far 51.5% and 48.5% of female and male respectively are now fully vaccinated.
“Approximately 51.5 % of ladies and 48.5% of gents as well as an additional 15.2 % of the old age population are now fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and this represents 2,072,520 overall vaccination coverage,” Dineen outlined.
He added that almost 34 percent of adults in the country are now fully vaccinated and that, in three states of Northern Bahr El Ghazel, Western Equatoria and unity state one in two adults are fully vaccinated.
He disclosed that South Sudan cumulatively received up to 3,554,170 doses of both AstraZeneca and Johnson and Johnson since March last year, noting that the COVAX facility recently provided over half a million doses of Johnson and Johnson.
“We recently conducted mass vaccination campaign in 7 counties and vaccinated 88,383, in three counties in Jonglei, 4 counties in Northern Bahr El Ghazel and we receive over half a million doses in the third week of September and 504,000 Johnson and Johnson vaccine,” he said.
The Covax coordinator also indicated that they will soon embark on a nationwide vaccination campaign in all the 80 counties and three administrative areas starting on the third week of this November.
He made it known that, they are now engaged in training, doing micro planning, and conducting resource mobilization in preparation of the upcoming national campaign.
