The National Minister for Environment and Forestry, Josephine Napwon Cosmos said Juba City Council has failed to keep the city clean.
Speaking in a press conference on Wednesday to announcement the postponement of the occasion marking the World Environment Day which is supposed to take place on Thursday Cosmos said that the city is no longer clean and Juba city council is one of the institutions to make sure that the city is clean.
“If you see the general overview of the citizen it’s like the ministry of Environment is the one failing to make the environment clean, but also there are responsibilities, Juba City council is actually one of the important institution that is supposed to make sure that Juba is clean but due some circumstances, we even fail to understand why Juba is not clean” Said Napwon
“We want tell Juba city council to pull up their socks, let them join us on making the city clean, and if the think that they have failed to do their work let them be open so that we take responsibility as ministry because we are also blamed as a ministry for dirt in the city.” Said Napwon
She appreciated effort taken by the citizen on Tuesday this week especially the youth who joined the ministry and launched a cleaning campaign at the Airport.
“As a Ministry we need to work together with people for the betterment of our environment in the country and that will not be the last day we will continue doing cleaning to make our environment is clean.” Added the minister.
On the World Environment day, the Minister said the celebration is postponed to Monday due the funeral payers of the Late Minister Manawa Peter that will take place on Thursday.
“I called this press conference to announce the postponement of the World Environment Day which is supposed to be on Thursday at around 10 am but due to the funeral of the late Minister Manawa Peter Gatkuoth we cannot celebrate the day, of course we cannot be celebrating meanwhile there is a funeral prayers going on, we decided to put this day to Monday next week on the 4th of July” Concluded the minister.
