The government of Uganda is advising its nationals to exercise extreme caution as they travel to South Sudan; it adds that those travelling to South Sudan should note that there are violent crimes such as carjacking, shootings, ambushes, assaults, robberies, and kidnappings in South Sudan, particularly along the Yei road.
The warning comes after eight (8) Ugandans lost their lives on the Yei route this week. The Ugandan government has condemned the murder of its nationals and says it’s working with the government of South Sudan to facilitate the return of the bodies of the deceased to their families.
“Following the news of the attack, the government of Uganda conveyed its serious concern to the government of South Sudan.” Reads part of the statement.
The government of Uganda is also appealing to South Sudan’s government to restore security along routes from Uganda border points into Juba to facilitate the safe movement of persons, goods and services.
There is increased violence along major routes connecting South Sudan’s capital Juba to other countries, on Thursday, five people were reportedly killed along the Juba-Nimule road when their car entered in an ambush.
