The Governor of Eastern Equatoria State Louis Lobong Lojore has called for unity among communities in order to allow the government to provide security and effective service delivery.
He was speaking over the weekend at a function organized by Isalaro Community at Lolere village.
“The government would work with development partners to take services to people in western Torit,” said Lobong.
The event was attended by representatives of various ethnic communities across the State to celebrate the prevailing stability and peace in the entire Imurok Payam of Torit County.
Mary Alphonse Lodira, Deputy Governor appealed to communities in the State to refrain from harboring criminals, but rather to report them to the government.
On his part, the Metropolitan Archbishop of Juba Dr. Stephen Ameyu called for immediate end to the communal conflicts in Otuho land.
Eastern Equatoria State was last year the epicenter of deadly communal violence particularly in Magwi County involving cattle herders from neighboring Jonglei State and indigenous population.
Several people were killed and thousands displaced in the violence.
He told the masses to ready themselves for the upcoming general elections, in order to “elect leaders their choice, leaders who will not divide the people”.
Speakers at the event emphasized on the importance of stopping the violent conflict in Hiyala Payam of Torit County.
The Governor was accompanied to the area by a number Cabinet Ministers and other senior government officials.
