South Sudan Artist Union President Hamet Deng Williams has called on the government to provide support for musicians in the upcoming 2024 election.
This request comes as artists play a crucial role in shaping public opinion and expressing the aspirations of the people through their work.
“By supporting musicians, the government can ensure that their voices are heard and their contributions are recognized. This support can come in the form of financial assistance, access to resources, and promotional opportunities. It is essential for the government to recognize the importance of the arts and provide the necessary support for artists to thrive and contribute to the cultural and political landscape of South Sudan,”.
He added that the Artist Unions has recently made a plea to all musicians in the country to refrain from involving themselves in politics.
The union believes that musicians should focus solely on their art and entertainment, rather than engaging in political discussions or activities. This call for non-political involvement aims to promote unity and a peaceful environment within the music industry. The union encourages musicians to use their platform to spread positivity and inspire their audiences, without getting caught up in the political tensions of the country
Artists in South Sudan are being encouraged to separate themselves from politics and focus on their craft. It is important for artists to stand out and be recognized for their talent rather than getting involved in political issues. By staying neutral and independent, artists can have a greater impact on society through their art. This approach allows them to reach a wider audience and convey their messages effectively without being limited by political affiliations.
