The South Sudan Red Cross hosted a week-long youth camp in Torit town of Eastern Equatoria
state in a bid to bring peace among young people across South Sudan.
Joseph Dhuor, the President of South Sudan Red Cross said on Friday that event was organized
with support from the Swedish Red Cross.
“We want to make sure that people stay safe across the country, peace in South Sudan is in the
hands of youth,” said Dhuor.
The annual youth camp was organized under the theme “Youth for peace, digitalization and
financial literacy is meant to bring peace and unity among the youth across South Sudan”.
The event that commenced on November 21 will conclude on November 27.
Margaret Idwa Okuye, the state minister for youth and sport in Eastern Equatoria state said the
government expects youth to prepare for a better future, adding that youth must seriously
take on trainings.
“We want young people to pave way for people to have better future, we have been working
on capacity building and training but we want to be doing it more, youth must consider peace,
digitalization and financial literacy,” said Idwa.
Mary Alphonse Lodira, the deputy governor for Eastern Equatoria state said youth need to
support voluntary agencies, adding that the future of the country lies in the hands of the young
population.
“I strongly urge the youth to take the work of volunteering seriously, we want youth to think
about their future, the future you want must be in your hands, if you start misbehaving then a
generation will be lost,” said Lodira.
