The Governor of Northern Bahr El Ghazal State has traveled to Juba where he has made a stop before he embarks on an official visit to Italy.
Tong is expected to head to Rome on invitation of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (UNFAO).
“The governor is part of the South Sudan delegation expected to travel to Rome to participate in an investment forum organized by UNFAO,” said a statement issued by the Tong’s office on Sunday in Aweil town.
A source who preferred anonymity to speak on the matter, said that the governor is expected to brief the investors on the state of food insecurity following the influx of thousands of returnees and Sudanese refugees fleeing fighting across the border with war-torn Sudan.
South Sudan is currently hosting more than 290,000 returnees including refugees who fled fighting in Sudan since outbreak on April 15.
Sudanese refugees are being hosted in Wadwil transit point in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state.
The humanitarian situation in South Sudan which is already hosting more than two million people displaced internally has worsened with the influx of more people fleeing the conflict in Sudan.
