Returnees in Aweil East Receive assistance

Returnees who fled Sudan’s conflict and are currently sheltering in Wanyjok,
Awiel East County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, were provided with non-food
items.
The assistance was donated by a church-based organization known as the Christian
Initiative for Restoration Development Agency (CIRDA) in partnership with
Samaritan’s Purse, an international organization.
One of the beneficiaries, Aluat Garang, stated that she is relieved to have gotten
the items, noting that she has been living in a small house with kids and relatives,
which does not suit them.
Ms. Aluat said she received plastic sheets, a blanket, soap and cooking utensils.
“I am happy to have received the non-food items from CIRDA, which got the items
from Samaritan’s Purse. It is a great relief,” she said.
“Now some of the relatives don’t want to share their sleeping materials with us
because we ran away from the conflict zone. I am so glad to have received the
items,” Aluat added.
Garang Diing is another returnee who hails from Pan-apuoth village.
“We were registered, and we never knew that the support would come in such
numbers. “This is great support from the Samaritan Purse and the local NGO
known as CIRDA. We hope it is going to change the situation,” said Diing.
“When we came, the rain rained on us, and it caused some diseases, such as
pneumonia, among children,” Diing continued.
One of the staff of CIRDA, Mr. Akot Deng Kur, said they are working to ensure
that other beneficiaries who have missed out on the distribution of the items will be
given in due course.

Northern Bahr el Ghazal is accommodating thousands of refugees and returnees,
with authorities pledging to integrate them despite their relatives’ economic
downfall.
