Facebook for Sudan’s post hacked

Last updated:

Below is a press statement from Sudan’s post

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

16 July 2023

This is to inform our readership that Sudans Post’s digital presence is yet again under attack. Sudans Post’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/sudanspost, has been hacked and apparently deleted by the cyber assailants. Our Editor-in-Chief John Tor Madira Machier’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/machieroffial, was also hacked along, renamed to “Sudans Post” and then deleted.

This is the fifth time in less than a year that such cyber incident take place and the fourth since the blocking of our website www.sudanspost.com in South Sudan in June 2020.  We take these cyber-attacks very seriously and we are working with Access Now and Facebook to restore our control.

The media plays a vital role in holding governments accountable and informing the public about important issues. In the context of South Sudan and Sudan, the media is essential for providing accurate and unbiased reporting on the ongoing transition and conflict.

The media can also help to promote peace and reconciliation by highlighting the stories of ordinary people who are affected by the circumstances in the Sudans.

Our website (www.sudanspost.com) is unaffected and we will continue our publication as we work to regain our Facebook page.

Best Regards

John Machier,

Editor-in-Chief

Sudans Post.
