The Head of International Committee for Red Cross (ICRC) in South Sudan, Pierre Dorbes has praised the progress made in the implementation of the 2018 revitalized peace agreement in the country.

He noted the reduction in levels of violence compared to previous years among the positive gains made by the parties to the peace agreement.

“I see progress in the implementation of the peace agreement and consequently, we see less situation of armed conflict, less intensity on violence,” Dorbes told The Juba Echo in an interview in Juba on Friday.

The out-going head of ICRC delegation in South Sudan, said there is dire need for humanitarian assistance due to huge influx of refugees and returnees fleeing ongoing conflict in neighboring Sudan.

“There are still areas in South Sudan where we have inter-communal violence, which triggers significant humanitarian needs, but overall my two-years in the country I see the situation changing for the positive,” Dorbes said.
