The South Sudan Media Authority announced on Wednesday deadline for registration of national journalists.
“Media Authority reminds professional journalists who have not been accredited to process their accreditation from media authority before June, 30th 2023,” a statement issued in Juba by the media regulator said.
It stressed the need for journalists to get accredited to certify recognition of their work in accordance with the regulation on accreditation of journalists issued in 2018.
It said the purpose of accreditation is to certify the recognition of working journalists and other qualified media practitioners.
“The accreditation shall be granted only to an individual upon presentation of professional certificates, a recommendation letter duly issued by the media agency for which the media professional works, and filed application form which will be made available by the Media Authority,” it said.
The regulator started the accreditation of local journalists in October last year.
The Media Authority Regulations on Accreditation of Journalists, 2018, states that journalists who shall qualify to be accredited include; all qualified national journalists, editors-in-chief, managing editors and copy editors, freelance journalists, student journalists and trainees, foreign journalists, and cartoonists.
South Sudan has 230 registered media houses, but only 100 are functional across the country.
