South Sudan Approves New Tariff Exchange Rate For Communication Services

The Board of Directors of the National Communication Authority of South Sudan has over the weekend approved an increase on tariff exchange rate for communication services.

In a board meeting Presided over by their chairman professor John Apuruot Akec, the national communication Authority raised the rate from the previous 300 to 618.75 South Sudanese pounds.

“The board endorsed the new exchange to be used by mobile network operators as they convert from dollar to South Sudanese pounds,” Professor Akec said after the meeting.

Professor Akec revealed that the implementation of this new tariff plan will be done in three different stages and expect it to be complete within three months so that it does not become a shock to anyone.

He also disclosed that the rate is subject to review if the exchange rate of the dollar against the pound improved then the tariff will also stand liable for adjustment to match the prevailing condition.

“The new tariff is subject to review, should the exchange rate improve then we also expect customers to benefit as the rate will also be downsized,” he said.

Prof Akech who said the charges for dollar calls and data have not increased added that What has happened is not price increase but an adjustment to the value of exchange rate which he says is inevitable although he also believes  it is not something beyond them.

“The dollar prices or the rate per unit call or the data has not changed and what has changed is the exchange rate,” he concluded.
