President Salva Kiir Mayardit has urged youth to embrace agriculture so as to strengthen domestic agricultural production, as part of guaranteeing home food supply.
The president made this call at the backdrop of his visit to a farm in Luri, one of the suburbs of Juba City where he went to observe the goings there at the farm as well as efforts made by the farm workers.
“I urged the young people not to spend most of their time on leisure, playing cards, and taking tea the whole day under the trees, holding unprofitable conversations. But rather use the free time away from formal employment to engage in agricultural activities and other self-sustainable profitable and productive activities,” he added.
President Kiir added that his government has embarked on providing infrastructure such as roads to provide access to both farms and markets, agriculture machinery such as tractors, seeds as well as provide security in the areas to protect farmers in a bid to strengthen domestic agricultural production.
He promised for thoughtful efforts to support the young people who are not in formal employment to enable them create own jobs and also hire others and tempted the young people to always be patient, strong and courageous.
